This exhibition will gather works that exemplify the range of information that is addressed in new figuration. It also serves as a meditation on the parameters of what defines the figure in art. To this end we have included works like Fred Tomaselli’s chemical/celestial (Portrait of Sean) and Mika Rottenbergs (Fried Sweat) - both of which address issues of the body in terms of what the body produces and consumes. Generally, we hope to sample a portion of the complex information and fecund diversity found in new figurative art. These works, while connected in subject, hope to impart a timely spectrum of ideas, perspectives, issues of identity, and sociopolitical agendas.
